Green Jobs: There’s Good Work To Be Done

Growth in “green” jobs offers wide range of opportunities

by Environmental Forum of Marin

April 29, 2021

4:00 - 5:30 pm

This event will be followed by a lunchtime discussion on Friday, April 30, Noon – 1:00 pm. This discussion is included in your ticket price. Details will follow.

Addressing the many challenges of the climate crisis will require all hands on deck.  With government funding flowing to climate-related projects, large companies making sustainability commitments, and entrepreneurs creating innovative products and services, it’s now easier than ever to get (or create!) a “green” job, no matter your skillset or job experience. At this exciting and timely event, we’ll set the stage with an overview of the five major “green” job sectors. Then we’ll get granular with a panel discussion about opportunities for Marin and Bay Area residents — whether new to the job market or looking for a mid- or late-career pivot — to apply existing skills or acquire new ones in order to get a green job.

What are the opportunities?

  • Transportation: build new EV infrastructure, expand public transportation, design and build infrastructure to support alternate forms of transportation, and service EVs and e-bikes
  • Energy: install and service solar panels and wind turbines and electricity infrastructure, replace gas appliances with electric, and retrofit buildings with energy-saving features
  • Food and food waste: reclaim and redistribute food that would otherwise be discarded and work with ranchers and farmers to transition to organic or regenerative ranching and farming
  • The circular economy: repair, repurpose, lend, and barter goods to reduce waste
  • Restoration of nature: work with ecologists, engineers, and communities to restore and support natural ecosystems

One panel, many perspectives

We will be having a panel discussion with representatives from organizations that focus on:

  • Training and jobs for all in energy-related fields
  • Opportunities to start a career in sustainability
  • Further education to develop green management skills or start a business
