TIST Tree Planting

Private money targeted at climate change mitigation and restoration is growing rapidly because it is a way for large donors, and small, to make a measurable and meaningful difference. This event will delve into the landscape of philanthropic donations aimed at policy change, technological innovation, research, and specific projects to reduce atmospheric GHGs and protect the climate. Participants will learn about large scale private funding and the world of carbon offsets — two different approaches to giving money to help restore the climate. Learn how YOU can participate and help the planet.

The program will explore:

  • The role of large philanthropic organizations in reducing GHGs and protecting the climate
  • The landscape of private climate protection funding and how it is evolving
  • Specific projects and the work of ClimateWorks
  • Carbon offsets – how they work, who buys them, and how you pick the best for your money.
  • Carbon footprint v. carbon offset – going beyond
  • Cool Effect’s approach to offsets and specific carbon offset projects
