Climate Action in the New Administration
Our nation’s political landscape is changing, and with it comes an attitude that challenges the legitimacy of climate action. For this reason, our efforts must be greater than ever, effecting change on a more comprehensive scale.
Our work must be universally appealing, crossing political boundaries, and creating results without added taxation. It must be shown to support the development of new jobs and businesses, while curbing greenhouse gas (GHG) production. Economists agree that putting a price on carbon is the single most effective action we can pursue, because it puts the economy itself to work on the right side.
Our kick-off lecture in the 2017 Series addresses the issue of “putting a price on carbon,” touching on subjects that include:
A. Cap & Trade—what has already been implemented in California?
B. Revenue-Neutral Carbon Fee & Dividend approach—as advanced by Citizens Climate Lobby
C. Carbon Fee & Re-distribution approach—to meet other goals of Congress
Each of these approaches offers challenges and benefits. Join us to learn why we favor a Revenue-Neutral Carbon Fee & Dividend approach with border adjustment, and its built-in refund of fossil fuel extraction fees to all taxpayers.
Learn about the steps needed to shepherd a bill through Congress, and the intricacies of actually issuing checks to people from the Treasury. Find out more about these approaches and our country’s obligations to reduce GHGs (as promised in the UN Climate Accord), and about the ambitious goals set by California’s leaders. Agenda
